Israel's Mission: Part 2
Israel's encounter with God at the foot of Mount Sinai -- the mountain of God -- is the formative moment in her relationship with Him. It is the foundation that resonates throughout the course of the Bible story -- from its rumblings before the days of the exodus through the apostle John's vision of a renewed creation. At Mount Sinai, the Lord established a partnership with His people through which He would restore shalom to a creation reeling in chaos because of humanity's rebellion. That partnership between God and His people, who were called to live in faithful covenant with Him, would pave the way for the redemption of all humanity.
The year the Hebrews spent at the foot of Mount Sinai was as significant to their identity as any in their history. If we are to understand God's plan for His creation and the role He desires His people to play in it, we must spend time with his ancient people at Sinai. Which is exactly what we will do this morning.
