The Lord had said to Abram, "Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse, and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
In the Bible story, the Lord is portrayed as the One who redeems his people and calls them to be his "partners" in redeeming others. In Western Christianity, we tend to think of redemption as being synonymous with salvation. While there is no doubt that the reality of God's salvation is included in what it means to redeem; this morning, we will look at how the word actually has a broader meaning in the context of the Bible.
